Sweden capped an incredible comeback in the third period and eliminated Finland. Blackhawks prospect and Sweden captain Victor Stjernborg scored a clutch goal to give his country a 3-2 lead. It held up as the game-winner. And it was a short-handed goal!
Stjernborg won half of his 18 faceoffs, moving up to the top line for Sweden. He skated 16:09 in the game and was credited with just one shot on net.
One of the names to watch for Sweden in this tournament if you’re a Blackhawks fan paying attention with an eye on the 2023 NHL Draft is Leo Carlsson. He’s considered in the group of four prospects who are “elite” at the top of the class. And he helped his case tremendously in this game.
Carlsson scored Sweden’s other two goals and was credited with four shots on net in the game. He skated 16:19 and was voted the game’s best player.
