Patrick Kane Misses Third Period of Blackhawks’ Loss, Will be Evaluated Further

Chicago Blackhawks

Patrick Kane left Tuesday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning after the second period. After the game, head coach Luke Richardson said he’s going to get checked out on Wednesday morning by the team’s medical staff to determine a course of action.

Kane appeared to get hit pretty well in the Blackhawks’ loss against San Jose on Sunday. Here’s the play:

Kane was at the morning skate and skated 12:57 of the first 40 minutes of the game. Richardson did say it was related to an issue he had been dealing with since the San Jose game.

Obviously this is a bad scenario for the Blackhawks, who may be having a significant conversation with the agent of both Kane and Jonathan Toews in the coming days about the future(s) of the two superstar players. If Kane were to decide to accept a trade out of Chicago, he would be one of the most valuable trade pieces in the NHL between now and the deadline on March 3.

Richardson also said Tyler Johnson is dealing with a flu bug. With Kane and Tyler Johnson potentially missing time and Jujhar Khaira and MacKenzie Entwistle both injured as well (which led to Caleb Jones skating as a wing on Tuesday night), Richardson indicated there might be “one of two” players called up from Rockford before Friday’s game against the Arizona Coyotes.

However, because of the sickness that’s crept into the room, Richardson (who missed the morning skate sick himself) said the team will not practice on Wednesday. So stay tuned for possible call-ups.
