With Tyler Johnson not making the trip with the Blackhawks this week, Chicago announced three roster moves on Monday. Johnson was placed on IR to accommodate the moves.
The Blackhawks have recalled forward Luke Philp and defenseman Filip Roos from Rockford. To make room for Roos, the Blackhawks assigned defenseman Isaak Phillips to the IceHogs.
Phillips was caught in a platoon situation with Ian Mitchell on the Blackhawks’ blue line. Sending him back to Rockford affords him the opportunity to go back to playing top-pair minutes and continue his development.
With Ottawa watching the Blackhawks — potentially for a defenseman — it’s intriguing they would send Phillips back to Rockford at this time.
Philp, 27, has 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists) in 31 games with the IceHogs this season. An undrafted player, Philp signed with the Blackhawks this past summer. He has not appeared in an NHL game yet.
Roos, 24, appeared in 15 games with the Blackhawks earlier this season before he was assigned to Rockford. He has seven points in 17 games with Rockford.
