The Blackhawks haven’t heard an official Yes or No from Jonathan Toews or Patrick Kane regarding their no-movement clauses yet, but that hasn’t slowed teams expressing interest. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Blackhawks have already furnished both players with at least a preliminary list of teams that has interest should either hit the trade market.
Kane mentioned to the media after Monday’s practice that he has looked at a list of potential suitors and found a few situations “intriguing.” Toews has been out sick since the team returned to the ice following the All-Star Game.
Based on what I’m hearing, teams that might have reached out to the Blackhawks about Toews include Carolina, Colorado, Boston, Winnipeg and Washington. There may be others as well.
Neither player has had “the conversation” with the Blackhawks’ front office yet about their willingness to waive their no-move clause. But the clock is ticking between now and March 3, so both has to decide soon.
And… just throwing this out there… head coach Luke Richardson did mention after the morning skate today that just because a player might leave via trade before the deadline, that doesn’t necessarily exclude the possibility of said player re-signing in Chicago this summer if he’s a free agent (cough, Max Domi, cough).
