Happy Anniversary, Miracle on Ice!
Where were you 43 years ago today?
I was 18 days old. After a few beverages I might claim to remember where I was… but the reality is baby Tab wasn’t quite into hockey yet. But the Miracle on Ice may have bought my heart and soul that day when — on tape delay — Americans watched a bunch of college kids pull off the greatest upset in the history of team sports.
It was, indeed, a miracle on ice. And everyone believes in miracles still to this day.
Perfection is today being the 43rd anniversary of the United States winning that game 4-3 in Lake Placid. And perfection is Al Michaels’ call of the game that the rest of the country didn’t hear until later that evening.
Can you imagine if this had happened with social media??
Jack O’Callahan would go on to appear in 303 games for the Blackhawks, who drafted him in 1977 before he went to Boston University.
The movie “Miracle” gets me to cry pretty much every time to this day. And I proudly have a collection of pucks signed by the entire team on display in my man cave.
