Blackhawks Acquire Forward Hunter Drew from Anaheim
The Blackhawks are getting busy, folks.
On Thursday morning, the Hawks already signed forward David Gust to a two-way deal and called him up to the NHL. Now, they’ve made a minor trade to tweak the mix in Rockford.
The Blackhawks have acquired forward Hunter Drew from Anaheim for forward Josiah Slavin. Drew will report directly to the Rockford IceHogs.
Drew, 24, has registered 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 44 games with the San Diego Gulls this season. He is a restricted free agent this summer. He scored 17 goals with 21 assists in 64 games in the AHL last year and made his NHL debut, appearing in two games with the Ducks.
Drew is a right-shot forward who has been skating at a right wing but was drafted as a defenseman; he is listed at 6-2 and 191 pounds. He was originally a sixth-round pick (No. 178 overall) by Anaheim in the 2018 NHL Draft.
The addition of Drew leads me to believe there will be multiple moves in the coming days. So, I say it again, stay tuned…
