OMG David Gust Scored A Goal On His First NHL Shift

Chicago Blackhawks

You know what? This Saturday has been a long, long day. It started with rumors flying around about Patrick Kane‘s future being at Madison Square Garden, then we added Sam Lafferty to the “not playing because he’s getting traded” list, and then the Sharks pushed the start of this game between two of the four worst teams in the NHL back an extra hour because they couldn’t get their ceremony for Patrick Marleau over with in a timely manner.

A lot of us have spent a lot of this Saturday in our feels as Blackhawks fans. And then this game starting at 10 PM CT was just too much.

But on a day when we could all use a reminder of why we love sports, David Gust came through. The 29-year-old native of Orland Park, who we’ve all now heard almost quit the game after winning an AHL championship with the Wolves last season, got on the ice for his first shift and made it count.

How can you not be romantic about sports when this guy signs his first NHL contract, gets his parents to San Jose in time for the game and scores his first goal on his first shift?

That’s freakin’ awesome.
