On Monday afternoon the Blackhawks announced the team has signed Notre Dame forward Ryder Rolston to a three-year, entry-level contract that runs through the 2025-26 season that has an $895,000 salary cap hit.
Rolston, who will turn 22 on Halloween, will report to the Rockford IceHogs. Chicago acquired his rights from the Colorado Avalanche in 2021 in the trade that sent center Carl Soderberg to Denver. Rolston was originally a fifth-round pick by Colorado in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Rolston just completed his junior season at Notre Dame, where he registered 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) in 27 games. His season ended prematurely because of a broken collarbone suffered at the end of January at Wisconsin, unfortunately. We’ll see if how soon he can get on the ice with Rockford.
It’s worth noting that, if you read the expiration date of Rolston’s contract and count backwards on your fingers like I did, his ELC begins next season. So he’ll join Rockford on a PTO contract for the remainder of the season.
My attention now goes to another Notre Dame forward, Landon Slaggert, who I expect to get a contract offer as well.
