The Chicago Blackhawks’ goaltending position has been a revolving door this entire season because of injuries. Both Petr Mrazek and Alex Stalock have missed extensive time because of various issues, and it appears we’re headed into another “who’s the backup?” situation as Chicago departs on a five-game road trip.
Mrazek left Tuesday night’s game against the Bruins during the second period after a couple tough moments. He took a hard shot to the mask; he left practice early on Monday after the same issue appeared to injure him. But he made another save moments later and took himself out of the game.
Head coach Luke Richardson said postgame Mrazek’s issue is the groin — again — but they don’t think it’s as bad as it was earlier this year when it cost him weeks.
So the Hawks need a second netminder for the game in Nashville on Thursday night, right? On Wednesday morning tThe Blackhawks recalled Anton Khudobin from Rockford. Khudobin hasn’t played in a game since joining the Blackhawks/IceHogs and hasn’t appeared in a game period since Feb. 3.
