Jonathan Toews Possible For the Blackhawks’ Upcoming Road Trip

Chicago Blackhawks

Good news on the “How’s captain Jonathan Toews feeling?” front after the Blackhawks’ morning skate on Thursday. It’s entirely possible that he joins the team on their upcoming three-game road trip that begins in Calgary on Tuesday.

John Dietz of the Daily Herald reported after the skate that he asked Toews about the possibility of going with the team on the trip, and he said yes. Head coach Luke Richardson was also asked about Toews’ status and he said things are progressing well and they’d know more about how he was feeling after the team has a full practice on Friday.

Toews hasn’t played since Jan. 28 as he deals with health complications, but has been around the team a lot on recent weeks. He’s been in the room and offering some tips to the grab bag of players that have been forced to assume center duties since the trade deadline. Thursday morning marked the second time Toews appeared on the ice with the team for a morning skate, and he was in good spirits again.

In fact, Richardson joked that Toews tried to jump into his normal spot to take rushes but they didn’t let him quite yet and Toews wasn’t happy about that — not in a bad way, but frustration like that is a great sign that he might be good to go sooner than later.

With this being the final season of Toews’ contract, I think we all hope to see him on the ice a few times at the United Center so Blackhawks fans can show some appreciation to the longest tenured captain in franchise history.
