Drew Commesso Leaving Rockford to Join USA at World Championship
On Monday afternoon, the Rockford IceHogs announced goaltender Drew Commesso will join Team USA at the 2023 IIHF World Championship in Tampere, Finland and Riga, Latvia from May 12 to May 28. Commesso has been released from his professional tryout with the IceHogs.
Commesso, 20, was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the second round (46th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. He signed his three-year, entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks and a PTO with the IceHogs on April 11 after a successful season that helped lead Boston University to the Frozen Four. He posted a 24-8-0 record with a .913 save percentage and 2.46 goals-against average, including two shutouts, for BU this past season.
Commesso also appeared in the Winter Olympics for the USA last year, where he registered a 2-0-0 record, 1.00 goals-against average and .964 save percentage.
The IceHogs also announced forward Paul Ludwinski has been released from his PTO.
