Central Scouting: Minnesota Wild Offseason Outlook

We’re continuing our roll through the Central Division with offseason previews today with a look at the Minnesota Wild. Beyond Brock Faber’s terrific rookie season, there was a lot left to be desired in the so-called state of hockey. And things aren’t going to get easier.

Minnesota heads into this summer without a stockpile of draft picks and not much cap space to improve from their sixth place finish in the Central Division. That’s largely because the Wild will carry $14,743,588 in dead cap space again this coming season because of the buyouts of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.

Wild Offseason Headlines

This summer stacks up as a fascinating one in Minnesota. They got a really good rookie season from Marco Rossi, but his name has been floated in trade rumors already because of their cap issues. They have almost their entire regular lineup coming back, but have less than $6M in cap space to fix a team that was among the worst in the league on the penalty kill and was lower-third in the league offensively and defensively.
