It’s finally here! Training camp opens at 10 AM today at Fifth Third Arena. It’s going to be a busy day, with practice followed by general manager Kyle Davidson kicking off the new Blackhawks season and then a media event to formally introduce Nick Foligno as the 35th captain in franchise history.
A reminder: we’ve got everything you need to know for Blackhawks training camp right here. Practice schedules, game times, updated with the ever-evolving broadcast info, new names and numbers. It’s all right here, folks!
- Ben Pope gave us five storylines for the Blackhawks’ training camp this morning at the Chicago Sun-Times.
- And yesterday Scott Powers and Mark Lazerus at The Athletic gave us their ten biggest questions for the Blackhawks before camp begins. Their No. 1… was answered quickly after they published. The Blackhawks do indeed have a new captain.
- Two common denominators in almost everyone’s pre-training camp questions/things to watch articles around the Blackhawks are: Who will skate with the reigning rookie of the year? and Where will Kevin Korchinski open the season/spend most of the season?
- For the gamers in our midst, Connor Bedard is one of the highest-rated players under the age of 25 in NHL25. Surprise level: zero point zero.
- Hey, there are some rule changes in the NHL this season! Thanks to the league for sharing this informational video.
- For as much as Foligno being named the new captain in Chicago was a no-brainer for the Blackhawks, Viktor Hedman following Steven Stamkos wearing the C in Tampa was a lock. They made it official on Wednesday.
- Something to definitely keep an eye on in the coming weeks: Stars superstar forward Jason Robertson is going to miss “the majority” of training camp because he had foot surgery at the end of July. The Blackhawks first face the Stars in Dallas on Oct. 26.
- The Bruins will not have their starting goalie to open training camp, because Jeremy Swayman still doesn’t have a contract. Bruins GM Don Sweeney went on to say they’ll get it done before Swayman could hit the open market on Dec. 1. Not exactly an encouraging update… but he did say they’re in constant communication. Boston might need to make a move to make cap space available.
- Thanks to everyone for the positive vibes after I announced my new book, The Future: Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks’ New Era, is now available for pre-orders. As soon as we can get some things arranged for book signings I’ll have updates to share around the middle of the season.
- Finally, speaking of Bedard’s rookie season, the Bears’ No. 1 overall pick had a rough weekend. Remember, folks, it’s a learning curve that we’re all watching play out in real time.
