I mentioned in my bullets this morning that Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson was at a couple Avalanche games this week. According to Frank Seravalli, Davidson and Norm Maciver took advantage of the days between Blackhawks games to stop by the University of Denver — something the guys also mentioned on Friday’s “32 Thoughts” Podcast episode as well.
According to those reports, the Blackhawks are keeping tabs on forward prospect Aidan Thompson, who’s having a marvelous season at DU and could sign his entry-level contract whenever the Pioneers’ season ends.
My only issue with the idea that the Blackhawks sent two members of the front office to “watch” Thompson is… DU didn’t play last weekend. And, if they were there to watch Thompson play, why hang around to watch Avs games Monday and Wednesday? (Oh, and Thompson shares an agent with Frank Nazar and Craig Smith…)
With that in mind, it’s a light night for scouts watching the Blackhawks against the Lightning and yet…. the Avalanche have a scout at the United Center for the first time since Dec. 29. (Colorado is done with Tampa for the season.)
Anyways, we can speculate about an Avs trade at some point. And we can get worked up about David Carle speculation, too. But Thompson was “the primary reason” the Blackhawks brass was in Denver.
