As many of you already know, Luol Deng retired as a Bull last month.
The Bulls legend played nine seasons in Chicago where he worked his way up the franchise’s all-time leaderboards. If you need a refresher on just how big of an impact Deng left on the organization, check out our previous post on his retirement right here.
However, you should also check out the Bulls’ Run With Us web-series, which released a behind-the-scenes look at Deng signing his contract and talking about his time in the Windy City.
Deng’s part starts around the 4:27 mark, so check it out:
I love hearing Deng reminisce about his time with Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon, who he says took him under their wing. I can’t help but feel like the next words that come out of his mouth are something the current Bulls team should watch over and over: “We built a culture where we were playing so hard, nothing was giving in practice. Everybody every day was competing so hard for those spots, and the playoffs become a target every year after that.”
Hmmm, is there any way the Bulls can get him on the coaching staff?
Really though, Deng is a pros-pro. Just listening to his send-off interview and watching some of his best moments with the team really makes you miss everything he did for the city.
As he says himself, he was the glue guy for this Bulls franchise for many years, and he’ll always continue to be the glue guy in out hearts (*insert cheesy, cliche “awwww”).
