I’ve been watching a lot of baking shows during my quarantine. Why? I don’t really know, but they’re oddly soothing.
There’s just something about watching someone try to make a drip cake with an edible rainbow twist that makes the societal troubles melt away for 30 minutes. It’s also funny when the fail.
Anyway, bullets …
NBA Insider Shams Charania announced this morning that Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell have both been cleared from coronavirus! Yippie! Unfortunately, it’ll still be quite a while before we see these two players – or any players, for that matter – back on the basketball court. The NBA has a long way to go before we’ll see any return to normalcy, but a full, healthy recovery is always something to be happy about.
For what it’s worth, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred gave a lengthy interview to ESPN earlier this week and from his comments we learned that he’s working with Adam Silver, among other professional sports commissioners, on their COVID-19 response. Sharing information and general coordination is a good thing and it could theoretically lead to mass-return to sports all at once. That is very easy to root for. Maybe we can make it into a national holiday: Sports-mas. Sports Day. Athletic Day. I don’t know. We’ll workshop it.
Meanwhile, Zach LaVine, Thaddeus Young, Stacey King, and a bunch of our Bulls friends are spreading the love online! Make sure to join them all in thanking those who are either working to help us fight the virus or simply working to keep our lives semi-normal. We’re all in this together ( … and it shows … when we stand … hand and hand … make our dreams come true … if you get that, I’m sorry).
Yesterday we relived the 4th game in our throwback series, so give it a looksie for some highlights and commentary!
Who will be on this Bulls team next season? While the team has effectively no financial flexibility (unless Otto Porter decides not to opt-in to his $28.5 million dollar contract … which he won’t), a new front office presence could mean a new perspective. Anytime an organization undergoes a drastic front office change (fingers crossed), it’s fair to wonder how they might want to change the roster/organization to fit a new mold. Trades that weren’t on the table before could come into play, and certain pieces of this Bulls young core could be seen as expendable. The Athletic’s Darnell Mayberry walks us through the unknown and projects who will be on this team when the 2020-21 campaign tips-off. And after a quick read, it’s hard to disagree on anything. When all is said and done, I think the young core remains intact for now, while Thaddeus Young is dangled for trade bait (more on that specifically later).
