The Players Will Need an Acclimation Period, Pushing Back the Draft, Executive Diversity, and Other Bulls Bullets

Just saying this outloud: It’s incredibly bizarre that saying “nice” in response to the number 69 is, like, just a culturally acceptable thing now. I’m not saying I mind (I’ll partake in the joke/meme as appropriate), it’s just funny what people can normalize.

  • Is it just me, or have you also felt better lately? I know the world around us is still filled with all kinds of trouble, but I sure don’t mind this newfound feeling of positivity and optimism surrounding the Chicago Bulls. Sports are supposed to serve as a distraction, and although there aren’t actually any games going on, the Bulls are providing us with a much-needed escape. For the first time in a long time, we have a bright future to realistically dream about. It feels good.
  • Of course, we still have a long road back to relevancy for this team, but at least that road should be exciting. Arturas Karnisovas has already added new names to this front office, and interviews for the general manager position are right around the corner. For any updates on where all of that stands, make sure to check out our post from yesterday!
  • If the season is going to resume, several team officials are reportedly asking for a month of preparation/training time. Players need time to acclimate and prepare their bodies physically, and I find this to be an obstacle many forget to consider in any possible return plan. I know some athletes might have their own basketball court or workout space at home, but others surely don’t. And either way, nothing these guys can do at home will be able to exactly replicate the contact practices and conditioning training in a team environment (posting up your stuffed animals isn’t gonna cut it).
  • If the league was going to just start right up, we’d probably see our fair share of injuries, and – while certainly less important – the play itself would likely feel rather sluggish. I mean, imagine if someone came up to you tomorrow and said “okay, quarantine over, time to go run a half-marathon.” My guess is most of you would prefer some time to get back into a physical routine that isn’t just changing from one pair of joggers to another and eating handfuls of parmesan goldfish (yes, I’m projecting).
  • The NBA wants to move the Draft back to August 1st, which certainly doesn’t sound like the worst idea.
  • The Bulls organization was put on blast recently for having an all-white candidate pool for the executive VP of basketball operations opening. However, we learned that may not have exactly been the case, and Michael Reinsdorf spoke out against the claims to defend the organization’s practices:
  • RED ALERT: THE LAST DANCE AIRS IN 9 DAYS (8 IF YOU’RE NOT COUNTING TODAY). WOOHOOO! Director of the documentary Jason Hehir spoke about the upcoming 10-part series, and he called working on the project a “privilege.” I’m not saying I have extremely high expectations for the documentary, but I’m assuming this will be the greatest sports documentary anyone in the history of anyone has ever laid their eyes on. That’s all. No big deal.
  • Bored? Of course, you are. Here is a bunch of amazing Jordan stats:
  • Jamal Crawford was a walking BUCKET.
