Jim Boylen’s Future Not Decided? Prioritizing Player Development, All-Time Dunkers, and Other Bulls Bullets

“I’ve become extremely dedicated to working out during this quarantine. My body feels great and it’s certainly made this whole experience a little more bearable. Once we’re all able to hit the town again and enjoy the summer months, I’m going to be lookin’ fine as heck. Watch out world!” – Me in an alternate reality

  • GTFO (pardon my abbreviated french).
  • I don’t know if this is just an attempt to stir the pot or an actual hint that the Bulls could keep Jim Boylen around, but I’m leaning toward the former. After all, we know Karnisovas has yet to make a decision on that front, as he plans to focus first on the GM search and front office overhaul. We talked about all of this a bit more yesterday, and even with this migraine-inducing tweet, I stand by what I said at the time: This is an interesting storyline to keep an eye on, but not one to worry about (yet).
  • Also, to which “big hitters” could Cowley possibly be referring? Karnisovas is the only slugger in a front office lineup full of pitchers (and not the Travis Wood or Jake Arrieta types). The Bulls have done a decent job at proving early-on that what he says, goes, and I don’t expect that to change with a decision as crucial as head coach. Of course, the situation is muddied further, when Cowley reiterated that he’s heard chatter about Toronto Raptors assistant coach Adrian Griffin.
  • Wait, so the Boylen decision “may not be as obvious as many think,” but the organization is also already talking about a potential new head coach? Yeesh. The moral of the story? I have a hard time believing this tweet holds any weight (for now).
  • I believe … I believe that we … I believe that we will fix player development and improve this young core! I believe that we will fix player development and improve this young core! Ah, that chant rolls right off the tongue.
  • Karnisovas is set to prioritize player development, and that’s arguably the organization’s best path to a quick turnaround. The guys over at NBC Sports Chicago talked about what this would look like, so check it out. Not only does focusing on this department improve the organization’s eye for talent as a whole, but it could help salvage the team’s current young core. While it might take a bit longer for Zach LaVine and Lauri Markkanen to break any old habits, Coby White and Wendell Carter Jr. are in a prime position to be molded into whatever Karnisovas wants. In my opinion, the roster doesn’t need to be completely blown up, just reworked.
  • Remember those spongey animal toys you would put in water and it would grow into this mega slimy thing you didn’t know what to do with? Well, that’s basically how the hype for The Last Dance has been building within me since the early release was announced. Every quarantined day my excitement grows, but I have no idea what to do with it! I JUST WANT IT NOW!
  • B.J. Armstrong talks about the Michael Jordan he thinks we’ll see in the upcoming documentary.
  • Scottie Pippen talks about MJ betting on the jumbotron games.
  • Bleacher Report ranked the top-20 in-game dunkers of all time, and the Bulls have three players on the list: No. 17 Zach LaVine, No. 13 Scottie Pippen, No. 3 Michael Jordan. I feel like that’s fair, though I do think Pippen’s dunk on Ewing should automatically throw him in the top-10. Also, LaVine could very well move up this list as his career goes on. Thoughts?
