I’m assuming most of you know this, but I was a youngster during the Jordan era.
The late 90s may have been a part of my “childhood,” but I wasn’t old enough to appreciate the Chicago Bulls in all their glory. And like many out there who just missed the boat, I spent plenty of time learning about those historic days and trying to build some sort of deeper connection.
As well-versed as I am in Bulls history, I’ve always been frustrated I can’t speak of these teams with the same twinkle in my eye as many others. A memory can’t be faked, but (fortunately) it can be understood, and that’s what The Last Dance is doing for all the folks in my situation. For the first time, we’re getting a full taste of what it felt like to experience this era. Sure, it might not taste the same, but it certainly tastes pretty darn good.
So, while a lot of you watch with nostalgia, the rest of us will continue to watch with admiration. Then, when the credits roll on episode 10, we’ll all have a little more in common.
