If Michael Jordan ever gifted a signed and game-used baseball bat, most people would sleep next to it every night. In fact, they might ask their significant other to sleep in another bed to make room for this beautiful piece of sports equipment.
Well, that wasn’t the case for actor and stuntman Tony Todd. Nope. Somehow, this man forgot he had a very valuable piece of sports memorabilia for 26(!) years. The Chicago Sun-Times’ Bob Nightengale shared Todd’s story and describes how one of Michael Jordan’s game-used baseball bats sat in the trunk of a 1966 Pontiac LeMans for well over two decades.
Yup, in 1996, Todd was lucky enough to hang out with Jordan after one of his Minor League baseball games. Jordan gifted him a signed bat in the locker room and then invited Todd – along with fellow actor friend Malcolm Norrington – to hit up the town. The three of them went on to meet up with Charles Barkley and enjoy the evening.
First of all, I’m jealous AF. Second of all, HOW THE HELL DO YOU FORGET ABOUT THAT SIGNED BAT!? Like, I know a lot of awesome crap went down that night, but that’s a ridiculously cool piece of sports memorabilia to own. Todd even admitted during his conversation with Nightengale that there probably aren’t many game-used, sign Jordan bats out there in the world.
Anyway, if you want to treat the bat with the respect it deserves, Todd is apparently putting it up for auction. I hope you have an enormous chunk of change, though, because recent pieces of Jordan memorabilia have cost a crazy amount. For example …
• Game-worn signed Dream Team jersey – $216,000
• Game-worn original Jordan 1’s – $560,000 and $615,000
• Game-worn signed Bulls jersey from 1998 – $240,000
• Ticket from Michael Jordan’s first-ever preseason game – $34,000
• Ticket from Michael Jordan’s first-ever regular-season Bulls game – $25,000
• Game-worn uniform from 1997 – $288,000
Who knows exactly how much a bat will go for, but I guess it’s only a matter of time before we find out. If you buy it, please don’t forget it in your trunk.
