Simply put: This team needed a win.
At this point in the season, it doesn’t matter how it comes or who it’s against. After a five-game losing streak and the news that you’ve lost your best player indefinitely, any win is a good win. From start to finish tonight the Bulls brought the intensity we saw for only three quarters in last night’s loss to the Grizzlies. They didn’t take their foot off the gas against this scrappy Cavaliers team, and when things got close in the 4th quarter, they were actually able to keep their head screwed on straight!
Even better, Lauri Markkanen and Coby White turned out to be the key to this closeout victory. Markkanen finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and a +16, marking easily his best performance since scoring a quick 18 points against the Raptors five games ago. Meanwhile, Coby White may not have been able to match his 27-point outing from Friday night, but he still found a way to impact the game in a positive way with 8 points and 9 assists. He scored or assisted on 10 straight points for the Bulls from 5:20 to 1:16 in the 4th quarter.
Coby White may not have scored at the level he did last night, but he came through clutch in the 4th.
Scored or assisted on 10 straight points with this sequence from 5:20 to 1:16:
Layup
2 FTs
Assist on Markkanen 3
Assist on Vooch 3
Assist on Vooch dunkGood stuff.

Does this win mean anything? Good question. I guess it keeps the Bulls tied for the 10th seed with the Washington Wizards, so that’s something, but whether or not it will actually lead to better basketball will have to something we revisit next week. For the time being, I’m just going to be happy this locker room finally got a win.
Now, I’m off to watch a RomCom with the girlfriend. See ya tomorrow.
