When Team USA plays two World Cup Qualifying games next month, a familiar face will be on the sideline.
USA Basketball announced on Wednesday that Jim Boylen has been named head coach. He will lead the World Cup Qualifying Team through two games against Cuba and Mexico in Chihuahua, Mexico. Othella Harrington, who played for the Bulls from 2005-2006, will also be on the coaching staff.

This will be Boylen’s first experience with USA Basketball, and I think it’s safe to the opportunity comes as a bit of a surprise. His tenure in Chicago was nothing short of tumultuous, and he has yet to hold another position on an NBA coaching staff.
Also, in case you were wondering, this Team USA roster will likely be made up of mostly G-League talent. Not only will the NBA season be going on, but it’s hard to imagine Head Coach Boylen would be much of a draw for NBA-level talent.
I’ll leave it that for the sake of Bulls fans’ sanity. After all, it’s the opening week of a new Bulls era, so the last thing I want to do is waste time thinking about the past.
GO NEW BULLS!
