On Monday, head coach Billy Donovan shared with reporters that Coby White had started to engage in “a little bit of contact” during practice. The third-year guard has still not joined his teammates on the court, but he has run sessions with the player development staff as he nears the end of his shoulder surgery recovery.
Now, thanks to The Daily Herald’s Mike McGraw and The Athletic’s Darnell Mayberry, we all got a closer look at what some of that contact work for White has looked like. Both shared videos of White participating in a 3-on-3 scrimmage at the Advocate Center.

While news of White’s condition has been increasingly positive, I should remind you none of it has come tied to an updated return timeline. For now, all we know is that the organization hopes White will return to the floor sometime this month. We should also remember that when White does return to being a full participant in practice, it will likely take time for him to get caught up to speed. In other words, I’d expect a relatively stark minutes restriction for his first handful of games.
The good news is that White seems to be completely engaged in the footage above. We can not take too much away from a few seconds of action, but it’s positive to see him confidently use both arms on the defensive end and nail a shot from downtown.
Anyway, we talked more about White in bullets this morning …
