Ja Morant’s Memphis Grizzlies evened up their series with Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night, but not before the Bally Sports North and NBA TV broadcasts unearthed a friendly rivalry.
The fathers of both All-Star players – Karl Towns Sr. and Tee Morant – engaged in quite the amusing light-hearted banter during the broadcast. As it turns out, the elder Towns and Morant are actually good friends and members of a Fathers & Men of Professional Basketball Players group.

On Tuesday night, Towns Sr. and Morant traded jokes about the opening-round series between their kids. Tee Morant joked with Towns Sr. that Memphis gave Minnesota the first game of the series to “let them feel like they’re actually in the playoffs.”
Karl Towns and Tee Morant also revealed they have a friendly bet going on behind the scenes: If the Grizzlies win, Towns Sr. will wear a Ja Morant jersey, and if the Timberwolves win, Morant will wear a Karl-Anthony Towns jersey. Tee Morant also mentioned that these had to be game-worn, so Towns Sr. trying to fit into a Ja Morant jersey could make for quite the interesting sight!

Anyway, I just wanted to share some good old-fashioned fun between two adoring fathers of two of the game’s brightest stars. It’s nice to see their friendship is more significant than the series at hand. Unfortunately for KAT’s father, though, I think he’ll be squeezing into a Ja jersey when it’s all said.
