The Brooklyn Nets front office might have just smashed the panic button.
One day after reports confirmed that Kyrie Irving’s decision to potentially leave the organization could have a major impact on Kevin Durant’s willingness to stay in franchise, the two biggest NBA insiders poured more fuel on the fire.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania first tweeted that Durant is “considering options” in regards to his future, while ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski named six teams that Irving would prefer to play for if he couldn’t reach an extension with Brooklyn.
Check it out:
While the news earlier this week felt like a potential leverage play to put pressure on the Nets to meet Irving’s demands, this now feels WAY more real.
Both Wojnarowski and Charania are making it sound as if Irving is moving a step forward in his pursuit of a new home, thus forcing Durant to reconsider his current position even more. While there is still time for this to simmer down, there is no question we have now inched closer to a potentially league-altering shake-up this offseason.
All of this news comes just hours before the 2022 NBA Draft, too. While I doubt anything in regards to Irving or Durant’s future will be decided tonight, it will be interesting to think if the possibility of either becoming available changes the thought process of certain teams around the league. Will some be more eager to add assets now to form a possible future trade package? Or will it work the other way and scare teams away from making other big moves? I guess we’ll find out in a few short hours.
The NBA never disappoints, right?
