Well, color me surprised (worried?). The Chicago Bulls have reportedly made a free agent signing. But it’s not at the position you’d necessarily expect (or one that they even necessarily need … at least as far as the roster is presently constructed).
Free agent guard Goran Dragic is joining the Chicago Bulls on a one-year deal.
Dragic, 35, played nearly 24 minutes per game with the Raptors and Nets last season with a 37.7% shooting percentage and just 25.4% from behind the arc (yikes).
I’m going to let Eli jump in here soon for some additional/better context, but a deal for a guard is at least a little strange to me with Lonzo Ball, Ayo Dosumnu, Alex Caruso, Coby White, and even the No. 18 overall pick, Dalen Terry, already on the roster.
Maybe this means the Bulls are planning a trade for one of those guards (Coby White has been in rumors all offseason, though has recently been identified as “more likely” to stay in Chicago than not) or maybe this is just additional insurance for Lonzo Ball, who’s been hurt for a long time and only expected to be back just in time for next season.
Either way, it seems Nikola Vucevic was instrumental in bringing him to Chicago.
Much more coming soon, though, again, this could be about waning confidence in Lonzo Ball’s knee, which would just really, really stink.
UPDATE: It’s a one-year, $2.9 million deal.
