Damian Lillard Just Signed a Jaw-Dropping Contract Extension With the Trail Blazers

Chicago Bulls

According to multiple reports, Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard is on the brink of signing a two-year, $122 million maximum extension.

Only one season into his existing four-year, $176.2 million deal, Lillard’s new contract will keep him in Portland through the 2026-2027 season.

Yes, you read that number right. Lillard’s extension means he is in line to make an absurd $58.5 million in 2025-26 and $63.3 million in 2026-2027.

Bobby Marks provided us with the full breakdown of Lillard’s future income here:

With all that money coming into Lillard’s pocket, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that he’s in line to become one of the top earners in NBA history.

An extension that is basically $61 million a year is mind-boggling, especially when we consider those numbers can still increase with a change of the salary cap in the coming years. We also can’t forget that Lillard is coming off a pretty serious abdominal injury that held him to just 27 games last season. Overall, he hasn’t played over 67 games since the 2018-19 campaign.

We can’t deny Lillard is one of the most offensively dominant players in the league when he’s right. Not to mention, his superstardom and marketability would be pivotal for any franchise to keep in town. But … wow … it’s going to take some time for me to wrap my brain around that many dollar signs.
