What to Watch For …

  • Marko Simonovic surprised Bulls fans with a borderline dominant 27 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks in his 2022 Summer League debut on Friday. The big man used his improved frame to fight for rebounds and finish some clutch shots around the rim. There is no denying the performance was encouraging, but consistency is key. The question now is whether or not Simonovic can continue to look like a Summer League veteran over the Bulls’ next four games, especially as gets a chance to compete against more formidable size. The Knicks will have second-year big men Jericho Sims and Micah Potter to bully Simonovic down low. Let’s see how he responds.
  • Dalen Terry provided the kind of fiery playmaking we wanted to see on both sides of the ball, but he also struggled to keep his hands on the steering wheel at times. Terry’s energy can sometimes be his worst enemy, and we saw it lead to six turnovers and six personal fouls. The hope will be that he can show an increased level of comfort and ball control as the Summer League contests continue. How he stacks up against Knicks guards Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride (two solid defenders) will be fun to watch.
  • Malcolm Hill was all over the floor in his first taste of Summer League action with the Bulls. He finished second on the team in scoring with 18 points, including an extremely impressive 8-10 showing at the free-throw line. I think some Bulls fans were a bit confused about why the organization chose to keep him on a two-way contract over Tyler Cook, but he might be showing us why.
