At only 22 years old, Ja Morant has plenty of things left to add to his game. But confidence isn’t one of them.
The former Rookie of the Year and recently awarded Most Improved Player is fresh off a breakout campaign in his third season with the Memphis Grizzlies. Morant averaged 27.4 points per game to go along with 6.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists to lead his squad to a No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. The All-Star will now enter the 2022-23 campaign as one of the NBA’s brightest stars, and he’s certainly acting like it.
In a conversation with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks, Ja Morant spoke about his admiration for Michael Jordan. However, after gushing about the GOAT, Morant made one thing clear:
“I would have cooked him, too,” Morant laughed. “Nobody got more confidence than 12 … I’m never going to say nobody is going to beat me in 1-on-1 any day. I don’t care what sport it is.”
How seriously we should take Morant’s claim is up for debate. Not only did he giggle his way through the comment, but Rooks lured him into the discussion by saying she was surprised the confident Morant didn’t initially make the statement.
Still, I think we all know Morant wouldn’t want any of that smoke. As talented as the youngster is – particularly on the offensive end of the floor – a prime Jordan would have turned Morant into the next LaBradford Smith or Scott Burrell.
Anyway, check out the full clip below and see if you think Morant really believes he can take on the best:
