When DeMar DeRozan showed up for another appearance at the Drew League, he brought a friend.
LeBron James made his first appearance in a decade at the long-running Pro-Am basketball league on Friday night. Unsurprisingly, when he arrived to warm up alongside DeRozan, he was bombarded by a dogpile of adoring fans.
The superstar joined DeRozan on the MMV Cheaters, and the highlight plays were plentiful from the moment the ball tipped. However, the game score isn’t what one would expect from a team with two multi-time All-Stars, as the Black Pearl Elite kept things tight all the way down to the final seconds.
With 5.5 seconds to go, the score stood 103-102 with a chance for the Black Pearl Elite to seal a shocking victory. But a bricked 3-pointer by Ethan Alvaro gave DeRozan and James the win.
James finished with an easy 42 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 steals, while DeRozan dropped 30 points to go along with 14 rebounds.
As much fun as I like to have at the non-GOAT’s expense, it’s pretty darn cool that he went out of his way to suit up for this exhibition contest, especially to play with DeRozan. I think it just goes to show the star-power DeRozan continues to hold … and thank goodness James didn’t remember that when he was searching for a new All-Star running mate last offseason.
That dude really picked Russ over him!
