After Lonzo Ball’s surgery on Wednesday, The Athletic’s Shams Charania provided fans with arguably the most encouraging update yet.
There is now confidence Ball can return to the floor this season after doctors believe they addressed his lingering knee issue. The starting point guard is still expected to miss at least a few months, but it sounds like a timeline for his return should become a lot clearer as he begins rehab over the next two weeks.
While I recognize that missing a “few months” may sound like concerning news, I believe an extended absence started to become obvious after the words Ball spoke at his press conference earlier this week. If anything, fear started to set in that his absence could become even longer, so the fact there might be a world where he returns for a second-half playoff push feels massive.
Again, we’ll have to wait and see how he responds to rehab, but it sounds as if the doctors believe they found and addressed the major problem. After months of mystery, that’s great news.
