Not even two days after word broke of a physical altercation between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole at Warriors practice, the video has surfaced.
The leaked footage found its way to TMZ, where Green can be seen intensely punching Poole and grabbing him after Poole shove him in the chest.
I’m not sure exactly what I expected the situation to look like, but this is surely worse. Poole immediately appears to hit the hardwood, and Green’s punch certainly seems to catch him off guard.
ESPN reported that Green did apologize to the team on Thursday before exiting the facility. He did not participate in practice on Thursday and isn’t expected to rejoin the group until Saturday. The organization said they plan to handle the situation internally, but it’s hard to imagine that remains the case with the video now out for everyone to see. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the league looks to intervene.
Let’s remember, the Chicago Bulls faced a similar situation when Bobby Portis struck teammate Nikola Mirotic at practice. Portis received an eight-game suspension for his actions, but his swing also landed Mirotic in the hospital with several broken bones. Considering Poole – fortunately – is ok, we should probably expect a less severe punishment for Green. We’ll see.
