Ben Gordon was arrested at LaGuardia Airport for hitting his 10-year-old son on Monday, the New York Post first reported.
The former Chicago Bulls guard – who appeared in 398 games for the franchise – was awaiting a flight back to Chicago before authorities stopped him from boarding the plane. According to the report, two officers received minor injuries during the arrest. Gordon’s son was also taken by a family member to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
TMZ later added some more disturbing details:
A witness told police Ben Gordon punched his 10-year-old son in the head with a closed fist, TMZ Sports has learned.
The child also had a restraining order against Gordon, according to law enforcement sources … meaning BG likely shouldn’t have been with his kid in the first place.
Gordon, who has also faced trouble with the law in the past, has been open about his struggles with bipolar disorder and mental illness in recent years. Of most importance here, hopefully his son will be OK.
