The Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic were in the middle of the second quarter when the basketball found itself rolling into the backcourt.
As Mo Wagner went to chase it down, Pistons’ guard Killian Hayes sprinted to catch up. Before he had a chance to reach the ball, though, Wagner dropped his shoulder into him and sent him flying into the bench. The Pistons reserved immediately jumped to their feet and wrapped up Wagner. Hayes, who quickly found his footing, promptly went right back at Wagner and threw his fist into the back of Wagner’s head.
To little surprise, Wagner went down and looked like he may have even gone unconscious.
Here’s a closer look at Hayes’ punch:
To be absolutely clear, nobody is in the right here. It was a dirty and dangerous move by Wagner to push Hayes out of bounds, and it was even more reckless for Hayes to then whack Wagner in the back of the head.
With that being the case, I can only assume that suspensions are coming for both players, and I will not all be surprised if Hayes’ is a good amount longer. We’ll keep you updated because the Pistons will be the next team to step into the United Center on Friday night.
