Derrick Jones Jr. is Active Versus Cavs, Goran Dragic Takes Night Off

Chicago Bulls

According to head coach Billy Donovan, Derrick Jones Jr. will make his return tonight against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Chicago Bulls’ lengthy forward has missed the past five games with an ankle injury.

Jones became a staple in the Bulls’ rotation in the 10 games prior to his injury. He averaged roughly 15 minutes per game off the bench and clocked a handful of minutes as a small-ball five. A switchable defender who can sneak up on opponents as a roll man, it will be interesting to see how much he’s used against a bigger Cavaliers team over the next two games.

Of course, the Bulls have now won four of their last five games without Jones Jr. on the floor, which could give Donovan some hesitation when it comes to shaking up the rotation. Regardless, it’s reassuring to know that Jones’ versatile skillset is available again off the bench.

Donovan also announced that Goran Dragic will miss tonight’s game due to rest. While it’s not a surprise that the team has chosen to give the 36-year-old a night off on the backend of a back-to-back, his presence will undoubtedly be missed.

Dragic has scored at least 12 points in two of the team’s past three games and continues to provide some much-needed veteran experience to the second unit. Not having that tonight against a fierce Cavs defense is undoubtedly a bummer.
