After the FTX scandal that rocked the cryptocurrency world at the end of 2022, the Miami Heat knew that FTX Arena would be no more.
The 2021 agreement between Miami-Dade County and the bankrupt company was finally abolished, per the Miami Herald, leaving both the county and the organization to seek a new naming rights partner. So what will team bus drivers now search in their GPS when they arrive in South Beach?
Drum roll, please …
The Arena.
Yup, that’s right. The Miami Heat’s arena is now called “The Arena.”
To be fair, this is said to only be a placeholder name until a new match is found. But I’d be lying if I said it still didn’t give me a good chuckle, especially when the Deputy Communication Director for the Miami Mayor had to tell the Herald that arena will need to be spelled “with a capital A.”
Anyway, let’s hope the Heat’s next partner isn’t a complete fraud!
