Goran Dragic will sit out of tonight’s battle with the Atlanta Hawks due to a non-COVID illness, per the latest injury report.
According to head coach Billy Donovan, Dragic will also not join the team as they embark on their upcoming three-game road trip that starts in Indiana tomorrow night. If Dragic is feeling better in the coming days, however, he could meet the team out East.
All things considered, Dragic has proven to be far more reliable than initially expected. The veteran point guard has appeared in 42 of the team’s 45 games thus far, averaging roughly 16 minutes per contest. His mix of facilitating and 3-point shooting has proven to be vital at times off the bench, and there is no question missing that as they embark on a four-game week could cause some bumps in the road.
Coby White has already carried a significant workload in recent games, averaging 26.5 minutes in the last four contests. With Dragic sidelined, however, there will be even more playmaking responsibilities put on his shoulders. And we can likely say the same about Ayo Dosunmu.
My eyes will also be on rookie Dalen Terry. With Dragic now out of the rotation for possibly multiple games, Terry could be the next in line to receive some rare minutes. Not to mention, his length and defensive intensity could prove particularly valuable in a matchup against a Trae Young-Dejounte Murray backcourt.
