The Hornets came into the night as the NBA’s worst 3-point shooting team. So, of course, the Hornets’ first four made baskets came from downtown. They used some hot shooting to break out into an 11-0 run and take an early 17-10 lead. The fear started to settle in.
Chicago sure looked like a team playing their third game in four days, as they missed some wide-open bunnies and dragged their feet up the floor. Fortunately, however, Coby White wanted to tell a different story. The sparkplug scorer looked like exactly what the Bulls needed as he checked into the game. It was his two-way energy that helped the Bulls string together their own run and eventually reclaim the lead. Alex Caruso’s three first-half steals also didn’t hurt the cause.
Before we knew it, the Bulls were turning defense into offense and building momentum. Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic all entered the locker room with 10+ points, while Patrick Williams and Ayo Dosunmu combined for 14. They took a 55-47 into the locker room. And they were finally on track to beat a 13-win team in the way they should be.
WRONG.
The Bulls f–ing did it again. They f–ing blew a game to one of the worst teams in the NBA in a truly embarrassing fashion. They allowed the Hornets to go on a 16-1 run in the 3rd quarter to take the lead despite the Hornets missing 18-straight 3-pointers. Charlotte went on to gain their largest lead of the night in the final few minutes of action, and the Bulls officially walked off the floor with their second-straight loss to a below-.500 team.
The Hornets had the fewest home wins in the NBA and the single-worst offensive rating in the league. But the Bulls didn’t see that as a good enough reason to take care of business. And if that’s not a good enough reason, then I simply don’t know what we’re doing here.
This team is done. It’s cooked. It’s over. While I wanted to hold out hope for some sort of second-half surge, I don’t see the point anymore. Even if the Bulls were able to string together some wins, they’ve shown their true colors. This current roster simply ain’t it.
I’m too mad to even put a joke on the box score, so here …
