The Chicago Bulls were up 19 points at one point in the first half. Can you guess what happened next?
That’s right, in typical Chicago Bulls fashion, the Bulls needed less than a quarter to blow that hefty lead. While they were able to avoid a complete collapse heading into the locker room, this would only foreshadow what was to come.
The momentum was in the Clippers’ favor during the second half. Chicago was able to keep it close down the wire, but history has shown that this group isn’t equipped to close things out. Indeed, turnover after turnover kept the Bulls from closing the gap, ultimately leading to a 108-103 loss despite holding the Clippers to a 39.4 percent performance from the field and 27.3 percent showing from long range.
I truly can’t believe how great this team is at completely fumbling the bag. They were getting whatever they wanted on the offense end and holding a great 3-point shooting squad to an ice-cold night. Despite taking advantage of that, though, they turned the ball over 20 times and lost the points off TOV battle 24-11. DeMar DeRozan led the way with a career-high 8(!) TOVs, while Zach LaVine added 6 to the final box score.
Look, it’s hard for me to root for this team to lose. But if losses this week convince the front office to do something at the trade deadline, so be it. Something has to be done, and I’m willing to accept these annoying losses if they lead to change. We’ll have our answer in a little over a week.
