HOLY CRAP: Kevin Durant Has Been Traded to the Phoenix Suns!!
Thank goodness I woke up for a middle-of-the-night bathroom break!
I had to read my notifications about 10 times to ensure that I wasn’t dreaming. And, yup, it’s true: Kevin Durant has been traded to the Phoenix Suns in one of the most jaw-dropping deals in NBA history.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets will receive Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, FOUR UNPROTECTED first-round picks (2023, 2025, 2027, and 2029), and a pick swap in 2028 for Durant and supporting cast member TJ Warren.
The news comes only a couple of days after Kyrie Irving lands in Dallas and a few months after Durant originally requested a trade in the offseason. The Suns have been connected to Durant since that initial trade demand, and rumor has it Durant always had an interest in joining forces with Devin Booker and Company. With that being the case, it appears new owner Mat Ishbia didn’t waste any time getting a deal done this time around and making his presence felt.
I got to be honest, my mind is racing. It’s well past 1 am and I still need to process this. All I know right now is the Suns are now right back into the title contention conversation in a wide-open Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Nets are seemingly in full rebuild mode, and I would expect them to be making even more moves between now and tomorrow’s deadline.
Could that be good news for a Bulls team desperate to get back into the playoff mix and/or add some pieces to their roster? We’ll find out. It never hurts when a player as good as Durant leaves the conference.
