Carlik Jones’ red-hot G-League season continues.
The Chicago Bulls’ guard – who earned himself a two-way contract with the organization earlier this season – was officially named the G-League Player of the Month for February. Jones averaged 27.5 points with 8.1 assists over his eight games for the Windy City Bulls last month.
Even more impressive, those stats closely mimic his averages for the regular season, which currently sit at 26.1 points, 7.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. Among players who have appeared in at least 16 games, Jones is currently the G-League’s top nightly scorer.
Jones’ big season also earned him a little recognition at All-Star Weekend. The point guard competed in the Next Up Game before the All-Star Game, scoring 18 points with 5 assists.
Overall, Jones has recorded seven games with 30 or more points this league year between the regular season and the Showcase Cup. He’s also registered nine double-double performances. As far as Player of the Year candidates go, it certainly feels like Jones’ name has to be included in the conversation.
What I can’t help but wonder now is whether or not the Bulls will plan to keep Jones a part of the picture moving forward. While G-League play rarely translates to the NBA, the guard is performing well enough to warrant a closer look. I have to imagine the front office will evaluate keeping him in the mix this offseason, especially if the plan is to pivot in a more youthful direction.
Anyway, congrats to Carlik!
