Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls weren’t losing.

After the refs embarrassingly threw Nikola Vucevic out of the game in the second quarter, the Bulls only looked more motivated. The same level of effort and execution that earned them a 20+ point lead in the first half hung around for the entirety of the game. While the Lakers were able to creep within double digits a couple of times, it never really felt like the Bulls lost control.

The main reason for that was the production of the second unit. Coby White continued his strong finish to the regular season with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in a +19 performance. Meanwhile, Andre Drummond provided some crucial minutes with Vucevic stuck in the locker room. His level of physicality came in handy against Anthony Davis, as he finished with 12 points on an efficient 5-6 shooting display with 8 rebounds.

Patrick Williams, Ayo Dosunmu, and Derrick Jones Jr. also combined for 23 points, giving the Bulls a total of 48 points from their second unit. The Bulls’ bench started the night with a 29-8 advantage.

The second unit’s production was highlighted by a dominant sequence from Williams and White in the 3rd quarter. After Williams denied an entry pass to LeBron James, he went on to finish the next possession with a dunk. Coby White then forced the offensive foul on the Lakers’ next trip down the floor before hitting a 3-pointer in the corner. It was a perfect example of the strong impact the Bulls’ role player had on both ends of the court.

All things considered, from start to finish, this was another well-rounded contest from this seemingly rejuvenated Bulls team. Zach LaVine dropped an easy 32 points thanks to his relentless downhill attack, DeMar DeRozan looked closer to his efficient self with a 7-13 shooting night, and Patrick Beverley hustled his butt off and threw in some ridiculous (yet lovable) antics.

We’ll now have to see if they can replicate this performance a little over 24 hours from now when they take on a much better Los Angeles Clippers team. Then, back in Chicago for a rematch with the Lakers on Wednesday!

Anyway, I’ll have plenty more about this solid win tomorrow. I got to go walk my dog and grab some dinner. Later!
