With an Orlando Magic loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night, the Chicago Bulls have officially clinched a spot in the Play-In Tournament.
The question now is which seed will they end up in? The Bulls still have three games left this season and remain in a stiff battle with both the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors for seeding. Both the 8 and 9 seed remains up for grabs, and you can read more about what the Bulls need to do to grab one or the other here.
Look, I know we’re talking about a Play-In berth and not a postseason berth. The fact that it’s come to this is undoubtedly embarrassing after a season where the front office stated that improving on last year’s sixth-place finish was the mark.
As I discussed in this morning’s bullets post, however, all we can do is evaluate the team in real-time. The fact of the matter is their odds to secure a top-4 pick were far better than their odds to make the playoffs mid-way through this season. Yet, at the trade deadline, they re-emphasized their commitment to playing past April 9, and I have to at least tip my hat to them for accomplishing that.
If they want a round of applause, though, they’ll have to crack the first round.
