Trae Young is Now OUT for Tonight’s Game in Chicago

Chicago Bulls

Trae Young is officially out for tonight’s high-stakes battle in Chicago, the Atlanta Hawks announced.

Young is dealing with a non-COVID-related illness and will now miss his eighth game of the regular season. The Hawks are 2-5 in the previous contests without Young.

A win tonight for Chicago would not only secure them a spot in the Play-In Tournament but it would officially give them the tiebreaker advantage over Atlanta. In other words, if the two finished with the same record, the Bulls would be given the higher seed.

You can read our original post on Young’s “questionable” status below. De’Andre Hunter is also out.

Trae Young’s status for tonight’s high-stakes battle at the United Center is up in the air.

According to the latest injury report, Young is “questionable” for his matchup with the Chicago Bulls. He is currently dealing with a non-COVID illness, putting him at risk of missing his first game since Feb. 4.

The Hawks are 2-5 without Young so far this season. He’s averaging 26.2 points, 9.9 assists, and 3.3 rebounds over his 71 games this season. As strong as those numbers are, he’s shooting just 42.9 percent from the field, making this his least efficient season since his rookie campaign.

Young has struggled, in particular, against the Bulls. While he did drop 34 points in the Bulls’ victory back in January, he combined for just 40 points in the other two games on 35 percent shooting.

Although, regardless of how he’s played when matched up with Chicago this season, there is no question his absence would be a big deal tonight. A victory for the Bulls this evening would not only erase the Hawks’ slim 1.0 game lead but would secure them the tiebreaker advantage over the Hawks ahead of the Play-In Tournament.

In other injury news, De’Andre Hunter has joined Young on the injury report and has already been ruled out due to a bone bruise in his left knee. Hunter has averaged 15.4 points per game this season and remains one of their better defensive players.
