Dalen Terry is wasting no time this offseason.
With a month to go until the NBA Finals, the Chicago Bulls’ youngest player is already offering up some offseason workout footage. The clip comes courtesy of the Instagram account dashletics. Basketball trainer and former Player Development Coach for the LA Sparks Jamal “Dash” Lovell runs the account. The footage shows Terry sweating through some rather intense ball-handling drills.
Take a look (h/t See Red UK on Twitter):
Considering he just entered his first full offseason it’s encouraging to see Terry already honing his craft. The No. 18-overall pick appeared in just 38 regular season games, averaging no more than 5.6 minutes per contest. An athlete with great length and a knack for making the hustle plays, the Bulls would love to make Terry a staple in the rotation next season. To make that happen, however, there is no question he must continue to develop his overall game.
Improving his handles could be key in keeping him on the court. We all know the Bulls are lacking talented facilitators thanks to the Lonzo Ball injury. Terry showed some high-IQ court vision and passing skills at the college level, and tightening up his ball control can help him translate that to the NBA court sooner than later. Not to mention, while Terry has flashed some impressive finishing skills, he isn’t a natural scorer. Bulking up and advancing his ball-handling could help him to develop a better first step and an overall stronger ability to create offense off the dribble.
I can’t wait to get way too hyped over a bunch of other workout videos during the next few months. Maybe we’ll even get some Marko Simonovic footage!?
Anyway, in the meantime, here are some more thoughts on how the Bulls’ handled Terry’s rookie campaign:
