A Derrick Rose Anniversary, Draft Lottery Envy, Stacey Talks Brooks, and Other Bulls Bullets

You know what day it is!

Yes, I know it was only Game 3. And, mhm, I know the Bulls went on to lose the series in six. But the fact of the matter is that Derrick Rose’s buzzer-beater in 2015 will live on in Bulls lore until the end of time.

  • The shot has almost everything you look for in an iconic NBA moment. Buzzer beater from behind the arc? Check. Against a juggernaut opponent? Check. In front of a home crowd? Check. Memorable celebration? Check. Meme potential? Check. Amazing television call? Check. Amazing radio call? Check. SO MANY CHECKS!
  • Add in the fact that this is pretty much Chicago’s lasting on-court memory of Derrick Rose, and the moment becomes all the more special. Again, I know the series ended up going south (*twitches thinking about David Blatt’s missed timeout call*), but it’s impossible not to smile on the anniversary of this awesome bucket every year. This is the last time it felt like there was stable ground and a true winning culture inside the franchise. And it was eight freakin’ years ago. Ugh.
  • Anyway, I hope this video makes your Monday a little better …
  • I have draft lottery envy …
  • BN Blackhawks has every reason to be extremely excited about tonight’s NHL Draft Lottery. For the most part, Chicago’s hockey team did what they were supposed to and prioritized the ping pong balls with a generational talent slated to go No. 1. They currently have the third-best odds to land the top pick and a 71.1 percent chance to land within the top-4. So, yeah, if you’re looking for lottery excitement this offseason, I recommend tuning in tonight and not on May 16 when the NBA does their drawing.
  • I know it’s not out of the question the Bulls keep this year’s pick, but the last thing I’m going to do is get my hopes up. As a refresher: They have just an 8.5 percent chance of landing in the top 4 and a 1.8 percent chance of winning the Wemby sweepstakes. More in here
  • Unlike last year’s mid-season pick-up of Tristan Thompson, I will remember Patrick Beverley’s time in Chicago fondly. He played his butt off after joining the team and undoubtedly helped re-ignite a fire inside the locker room. Having said that, I’m not sure continuing this marriage makes a lot of sense. Not only has he hinted at an asking price the Bulls would be silly to pay, but he’s heading toward 35 years old. Investing in the team’s younger talent and allowing them to fill the point guard role makes more sense.
  • The Memphis Grizzlies have already let Dillon Brooks know that he isn’t coming back. Would you take him on the Bulls? Stacey King didn’t hesitate to say yes.
  • As I wrote in our initial post on the Brooks situation, he makes plenty of sense on paper. Also, if you’re losing Beverley, you’re at least gaining another hard-nosed wing defender and an in-your-face personality. But I do strongly worry about what he’d do to a locker room that already seemed on the fritz last year. Plus, the guy’s scoring efficiency has been brutal over the past couple of seasons. At the end of the day, signing him certainly wouldn’t be as bad as some would likely think, but I’d rather find answers elsewhere.
  • The Detroit Pistons have narrowed down their coaching search to two assistants and a former college head coach. Not often has the adjustment from college to the pros gone well for coaching candidates, so it’ll be interesting to see what Ollie can do if he’s hired. Honestly, the last real success story in that department would be the Bulls’ Billy Donovan.
  • In case you missed it: Nikola Jokic shoved the Phoenix Suns’ new owner during the middle of yesterday’s game. To Mat Ishbia’s credit, though, he doesn’t want the series to be altered by a Jokic suspension.
  • I absolutely love this from Mike Malone.
  • I also absolutely love when game recognizes game.
  • Works for me!
