On Tuesday night, the San Antonio Spurs earned the right to select one of the best prospects in NBA history.
The Spurs were joined by the Rockets and Pistons as having the best odds of receiving the No. 1 overall pick and drafting Victor Wembanyama. The Pistons dropped to 5th in the order, while the Rockets dropped into the 4th spot.
Here’s a look at how the entire lottery played out:
1. Spurs
2. Hornets
3. Trail Blazers
4. Rockets
5. Pistons
6. Magic
7. Pacers
8. Wizards
9. Jazz
10. Mavericks
11. Magic (via Bulls)
12. Thunder
13. Raptors
14. Pelicans
The last time the Spurs selected at the top of the draft, they picked arguably a top-10 player of all-time in Tim Duncan. The organization began a true dynasty, winning five championships between 1999-2014. Duncan was also a 15x All-Star, 3x Finals MVP, and 2x NBA MVP.
With that being the case, expectations will be sky-high for Wembanyama – as if they weren’t already. If there is any franchise to help him reach those lofty expectations, though, it might as well be the Spurs.
