Bucks Reportedly Have a New Short List for Their Head Coach Position

Chicago Bulls

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Milwaukee Bucks have boiled down their list of head coach candidates.

The organization now has three top candidates for the position, including Golden State assistant Kenny Atkinson, former Raptors head coach Nick Nurse, and Toronto assistant Adrian Griffin. Wojnarowski shared that each will have a final talk with the Bucks this week before a decision is made.

While Milwaukee seemingly has all the time in the world to find their next head coach, it appears they want to have a chance to snag one of their top targets before anyone else does. Both Atkinson and Griffin have been two of the most popular assistants in recent years, with Atkinson even turning down the Charlotte Hornets head coaching job just last offseason.

As for Nurse, he remains arguably the hottest head coaching free agent. Woj reported that both the Suns and 76ers are still interested in his services, which could also play a factor in Milwaukee’s swift search process.

While none of the names on this list should be considered a surprise, it is a bit shocking that names like Frank Vogel, Monty Williams, and Doc Rivers do not appear. All have championship-level coaching experience, and Milwaukee certainly has plans to remain in the Finals hunt as long as Giannis Antetokounmpo is in town.

The absence of assistant Charles Lee is also a bit surprising, as he continues to be one of the most well-respected lead assistants in the game. Could this mean he finds a new home this offseason?
