For the second time in four seasons, the Miami Heat are headed to the NBA Finals.
The Eastern Conference Finals victory didn’t come without some drama. Miami found themselves in a position to sweep the defending East champs up 3-0 on their home court. But the Celtics were able to dominate Game 4 116-99 to recapture the momentum and string together shocking three-straight victories to tie the series. The Game 6 win came off an epic Derrick White buzzer-beater to give Boston a chance to do what no other NBA team has ever done back in Massachusetts.
Indeed, if Boston pulled off the Game 7 victory, they would have been the first team in NBA history to ever win a playoff series after facing a 3-0 deficit. The record continues to stand, however, as teams are now 0-151 when faced with that massive uphill battle.
While Jimy Butler is undoubtedly the key reason Miami is headed to another NBA Finals, the Heat wouldn’t have been able to pull this off without some massive contributions from their supporting cast. Caleb Martin continued his impressive playoffs with a 26 points in tonight’s 103-84 win on 11-16 shooting from the field. Gabe Vincent and Duncan Robinson also continued filling in the hole created by Tyler Herro’s absence, combining for 20 points in tonight’s elimination game.
Miami will now head to Denver on Thursday for Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The Nuggets have had some significant rest after taking care of the Lakers in four games. Nikola Jokic and his squad will undoubtedly enter the matchup as the favorites. But, if Miami has proven anything, it’s that you can never count them out. After all, we can all remember just how fantastic Jimmy G. Buckets played during his first Final appearance back in 2019-20.
