If the Bulls truly are “competitive” like the front office says, they should probably win this game and start making up some ground in the East.

What to Watch For

  • I’m happy the Bulls pulled out the win over the Grizzlies on Thursday, but it would have been so incredibly on-brand for them to drop that game to a depleted roster a day after the front office doubled down on their “competitiveness.” It was a weird game, but in the end, the Bulls’ best players went out and got the job done. DeMar dropped 30, Coby had 20, Vooch had a double-double. It never should have been that close, but a win is a win.
  • Andre Drummond was really good again on Thursday, and it seems like Billy Donovan has found something with the Vooch/Drummond pairing on the floor. Chicago outrebounded Memphis 46-34 in the win. Tonight’s matchup will be an intriguing test for that duo. The Magic bigs are a little more versatile and athletic, especially Paolo Banchero. Chicago can dominate on the glass with those two in, but tonight might not be the best matchup for them athletically.
  • Every time the Bulls take on Orlando it’s impossible not to look back on the Vucevic trade. I still wonder if that trade backfiring on Arturas Karnisovas a bit has led him to be a little hesitant about going through with trades. Karnisovas came into Chicago and made some bold moves that ultimately haven’t worked out like he’d hoped, but that can’t keep him from trying. In the last 895 days, the Bulls have made exactly one trade. It’s been over 1,000 days since the Bulls have made an in-season trade. At some point, they have to start taking some swings again.
  • Arturas Karnisovas sits at Media Day.
